![]() ![]() ![]() The Body Cleansing Diet. The Body Cleansing Diet. By: Dr. Group III, DC, NP, DACBN, DCBCN, DABFMI want to share with you my general dietary recommendations for what I believe is the healthiest diet for the average person to keep their body healthy and clean. The reason I called it “The Body Cleansing Diet” is because a clean body is a healthy body. What Is My Diet? Those who have followed me over the years know that my diet is an ongoing experiment. I constantly try new food combinations as well as fasting, detox, and cleansing programs. I am a former meat eater and became vegetarian in 2. In my enthusiasm, I tried to go cold turkey. Of course, my body could not handle the shock and I became sick. I learned the importance of giving the body time to adapt to dietary changes. I changed my approach and, over a period of two years, slowly replaced cooked food, meat, dairy, wheat, and other gluten- containing grains with live, raw food. This allowed my body to adapt to a mostly raw vegetarian lifestyle. My current diet consists of seasonal, organic fruit, raw nuts and seeds, a variety of fresh vegetables, fresh green juice, fresh herbs, sprouts, raw goat and sheep cheese, and salads. I do not consume wheat (gluten), grains, egg, pasta, meat, or toxic, man- made food. Occasionally (maybe once a month), or when traveling, I will have steamed or lightly cooked vegetables, soup, or anything else I want. I don't claim to be perfect; I'm human just like you! I do not focus on restrictions. In fact, I believe focusing on restrictions is the main reason why most diets fail. You shouldn’t restrict your diet, you should add healthier options to your diet. I’ve personally seen and experienced the benefits of a raw, vegan or vegetarian diet and encourage others to consider their own dietary choices. The Human Body's Natural Biorhythms. A balanced diet, getting regular sleep and sufficient exercise, reducing your daily toxin threshold, cleansing your body regularly, and maintaining a positive state of mind are required to obtain maximum health. The first step in any diet plan is to understand how the body utilizes and processes the nutrients it needs. Let's start by looking at the biorhythms regulating our body's nutritional needs. All creatures on this planet, including human beings, are naturally attuned to three daily body cycles. These cycles have precise and established hours set by the laws of nature. BODY CYCLE #1 - THE ELIMINATION CYCLEThis Cycle Begins around 4: 0. AM and ends around 1. NOON. During this cycle, the body naturally tries to purge itself of toxic waste materials and unnecessary salts, proteins, and acids. During this cycle you should consume adequate amounts of fresh seasonal fruit (preferably organic or locally grown) to support the body's natural toxin elimination cycle. Not only does fruit supply the body with living matter to draw out unwanted substances, it also ensures the intestinal tract remains well hydrated and nourished. Fresh raw fruit provides the ideal ingredients for supporting the body's Elimination Cycle. BODY CYCLE #2 - THE ENERGY CYCLEThis Cycle Begins around 1. NOON and ends around 8: 0. PM. During the Energy Cycle, food and nutrients are processed and stored to provide you with energy for your day. The best way to support your body during the Energy Cycle is to eat plenty of fresh raw vegetables (such as a salad or juice), with a starch source to provide your body with the energy it needs to maintain its natural biochemical balance. BODY CYCLE #3 - THE REGENERATION CYCLEThis Cycle Begins around 8: 0. PM and ends around 4: 0. AM. This is an opportunity for the body to take the time it needs to heal and regenerate. This is when the body should get quality sleep. During this cycle, the body assimilates all the foods that you consumed during the day and then processes the nutrients to regenerate itself cell by cell. If the sleep cycle is disrupted by irregular work patterns, night feeding of infants, travel across many time zones, or other factors, the body loses its ability to regenerate cells, which leads to their degeneration instead of regeneration. Choosing The Right Foods. I designed the body cleansing diet based on the body's natural biorhythms. Understanding and following these principles are critical for first improving and then maintaining your health and vitality. Although this diet may seem tough at first, I would not be helping you if I failed to tell you what your body wants and needs to function properly. All foods should be certified organic or locally grown. This will help ensure that their purity and nutritional content haven't been compromised by toxins such as pesticides, antibiotics, hormones, refined sugars, MSG, artificial sweeteners, and other toxic compounds. Raw organic fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, grass juices, and sprouted grains provide the most nutrition to the body. Because they are not processed or treated (just gathered and cleaned), they provide the natural enzymes necessary for healthy digestion and cell function. If you were not raised on raw organic vegetables or foods, it may be difficult for you to make the transition from cooked, fried, and processed foods. Take it slowly and start by eating fresh fruit for breakfast every morning. After you've done that for a week or so, start replacing one toxic food with a healthy option every week until you have accomplished the goal of creating a healthy diet for yourself. This process might take you 3 to 6 months or longer, depending on how strict you are in following the plan. In my book The Green Body Cleanse, I explain precisely how to eliminate and replace toxins from the foods you eat and the beverages you drink. Why Most Diet Plans Don’t Work. One of the main reasons people have such a hard time losing weight and why we live in an obese society is that people are not eating their meals in a parasympathetic state. I have reviewed practically every diet book or plan ever written and not one person has ever mentioned how important this is or even linked this to a cause of weight gain. Sympathetic State vs. Parasympathetic State. Sympathetic state: Your Sympathetic nervous system is what causes the . In today's society people are in a constant state of stress due to finances, raising a family, negative news stories, traffic, work pressures and many other things. When your body is in a sympathetic state it continuously releases adrenalin into the bloodstream to deal with the stressful situation. Once the stress reaction is gone, it leaves the body exhausted and hungry. When the body is in a sympathetic state the digestive tract stops working and can even treat food as a toxin. Our body is not designed to eat when we are in a fight or flight situation. It is designed to run or get away from the stressful situation. When people eat in a sympathetic state the digestive system is shut down and does not work properly which leads to a poorly digested and assimilated meal. The ability to breakdown, absorb and process food is completely restricted which may cause weight gain, digestive upset, gas, degenerative conditions, and even bloating. Here are some examples of eating in a sympathetic state: ~ Eating while in the car driving~ Eating at your desk at work~ Eating while working on the computer~ Eating after a stressful work situation~ Eating while talking on the phone~ Eating while arguing with someone~ Eating while depressed or anxious~ Eating at a sporting event~ Eating while watching the news on TV, or just watching TV period.~ Eating in a loud fast- food restaurant~ Eating while on stimulant prescription drugs such as adderall.~ Eating when you are so hungry that you eat too fast.~ Eating fast because you are late for work, school, appointment etc. Parasympathetic state: The Parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for relaxation, healing, repairing and recharging your body. When you are in a relaxed state or parasympathetic state, your body is not dealing with stress and is able to break down, digest and absorb the vital components of the meals you eat. The fastest and easiest way to put your body in a parasympathetic relaxation response is through deep breathing. Research has shown that deep breathing can almost instantly calm the body and mind. Deep breathing causes the bodies muscles to relax, the lungs to expand and the heart rate to drop. Eastern cultures have used this technique for thousands of years to reduce stress, prevent weight gain and achieve physiological balance within the body. Deep breathing can be done anywhere and anytime before meals to activate and support your digestive process. It should also be practiced after every stressful situation you encounter. The 2 Minute Deep Breathing Relaxation Exercise. To relax your body before meals or during a stressful situation, find a quiet area to sit, close your eyes and take 9 deep breaths starting from deep in your belly all the way up through your upper lungs. Breathe in through your nose slowly until your lungs are fully inflated and then breathe out through your mouth until you push all the air out. NOTE: Many people who have food allergies often eat in a sympathetic state. This is because the body treats the food as a toxin, allergen or threat and initiates an immune response toward the food. If you suffer from food allergies, start performing the deep breathing exercises before meals and you should start noticing better digestion and less allergic reactions within months. Avoid Drinking Beverages With Meals. Drinking water or other beverages with meals dilutes the digestive juices, which slows down the digestion process. Try to drink water between meals. If this doesn't suit your lifestyle, limit your water intake during a meal to less than 8 ounces. Do not drink milk, tea, juice, sodas, energy drinks, or any other toxic beverage during meals. How Many Times A Day Should You Eat? You should eat 5 small meals daily to help regulate your metabolism and keep your body clean. Doing A Candida Cleanse » The Candida Diet. There are many different ways to do a cleanse. In fact there are cleanses designed for your liver, kidney, gallbladder, and more. If you begin your Candida treatment with a cleanse, you should be focusing on relieving the stress placed on your digestive system and detoxification pathways. A cleanse should also help to physically remove some of the Candida colonies, and possibly old fecal matter, that are found in your intestines. Designing a good cleanse means sticking to healthy, nutritious foods that don’t force your digestive system to work hard. Some people choose a more strict interpretation and follow a fully liquid diet throughout their cleanse, but that is not really necessary. For most Candida sufferers, simply cutting out the hard- to- digest foods is a more appropriate method. You can follow this cleansing diet anywhere from 3 to 7 days. What To Eat On Your Cleanse. The diet during your cleanse is similar to the main Candida diet, but with a few differences. You should mostly be eating salads, steamed vegetables, and some eggs for protein. Some fruits are allowed, but usually only the very low sugar fruits like avocados lemon, lime, and olives. By using these ingredients, with a variety of herbs, spices, oils, and other cooking ingredients, you can cook some delicious meals that pack a serious nutritional punch. They will be easy on your digestive system too, and will start the process of healing your intestinal membrane and restoring balance to your gut flora. Remember that you are only doing this cleanse for a few days. Your body will quickly adjust and you will end the cleanse feeling refreshed, light and healthy. Then, you will quickly be able to move on to a more varied diet. Consider what a typical person eats every day, and you will begin to understand why a cleanse is sometimes the best way to give your intestines, liver, and internal organs a fresh start. Fast food is overloaded with additives, most beef has added growth hormone, and fish are full of the various many chemicals that are pumped into the oceans. Cutting out these toxins and replacing them with fresh vegetables is a great way to start your fight against Candida. Eat salads, steamed vegetables, and eggs. Flavor your food with lots of herbs, spices, healthy oils, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Avoid starchy vegetables such as sweet potatoes, potatoes, yams, corn, and winter squash. Avoid hard- to- digest foods like meat, glutinous grains, and dairy products. If all this sounds like a big change from your regular diet, don’t worry! You can make some really delicious recipes using the ingredients listed above. Check out the list of foods to eat on your cleanse for more information. Another excellent food to consider during your cleanse is broth. Vegetable broth and bone broth are both great options, and you can make each of them easily at home. They will give your body a big hit of extra nutrition and support the healing process in your gut. I have listed a simple veggie broth recipe below. Note that most people discard the vegetables after cooking, but by that point most of the nutrients have already leeched into the broth during the cooking process. You can drink 2- 3 bowls of this vegetable broth each day during your cleanse. This is particularly important if you are doing a strict cleanse and limiting your food intake. But even if you are not doing such a strict cleanse, broth can still be a tasty addition to your diet. The quantities in this recipe should last you for about 2 days of your cleanse, and you can keep it refrigerated during this time. Use organic vegetables if possible! Recipe: Vegetable Broth. Let it cool, then drink or refrigerate. What To Drink On Your Cleanse. The first thing to mention in this section is that you should be drinking lots of water during your cleanse. This will give your body the absolute best chance to repair its detoxification pathways and expel as many toxins as possible. All that water also keeps your digestive system moving, prevents constipation, and speeds up the elimination process. There are several detox drinks that you can use to make your cleanse more effective. In our Ultimate Candida Diet program, we describe a detox drink that is carefully designed to support your liver, promote bowel movements, and encourage your body to expel the Candida toxins more quickly. If you are serious about tackling your Candida then I would definitely recommend it. However, on this page I will describe two other detox drinks that are regularly used by cleansers. The Fiber/Bentonite shake. A popular drink among cleansers is the fiber and bentonite shake. This is a detox drink designed to physically remove toxins from your gut. The fiber supplement gets your digestive system moving and scrapes clean the walls of your gut, while the super- absorbent bentonite clay sucks up any toxins sitting in your intestines and carries them safely out of your body. For the fiber supplement, there are several different options. Psyllium husk is very effective, but can be quite harsh on the intestines for those who suffer from Leaky Gut Syndrome or who have an irritated intestinal membrane. Other good alternatives are acacia powder and pure apple fiber. Here is a good example that contains soluble fiber from golden flax meal and acacia, plus inulin as a prebiotic. Regular bentonite clay doesn. Add it to your fiber supplement and shake up the mixture for a few seconds, then quickly drink it before it settles. Drink another extra large glass of water immediately after. Both these ingredients are great for detox. The bentonite clay soaks up toxins (its in a category of supplements named the . The easiest times are usually first thing in the morning, in the afternoon, and a couple of hours before bedtime. You can drink it 2- 3 times each day. The Liver Flush. There is another drink that you can use to support and protect your liver during your cleanse. Known as a liver flush, it is also popular among cleansers and combines olive oil, garlic, and ginger. You can drink it once a day in the evenings. Recipe: Liver Flush Drink. Tbsp. Years of fast food, cigarettes, prescription drugs and alcohol keep the intestines busy. Add gut dysbiosis and a Candida overgrowth to that mixture, and you have a recipe for an unhealthy gut. The intestines, and especially the colon, are the waste pipe of the body. Once the nutrients are removed and absorbed, the waste from your food intake is passed through the colon and expelled from your body. What many people don. Waste matter starts to move either too slowly or too quickly thought the intestines. If it moves too quickly, it can leave you dehydrated and lacking in vital nutrients. If it moves too slowly, the built- up water matter encourages the growth of pathogenic organisms like Candida, along with symptoms like bloating and gas. A good cleansing program is a healthy first step to restoring your digestive system to regular service. Colonic Irrigation. Colonic irrigation is really not as daunting as it sounds, but in some cases it can make your cleanse more effective. Irrigation acts to loosen and expel the hardened fecal matter within your colon, and also serves to eliminate some of the Candida colonies and their byproducts more quickly than you can by diet alone. Colonics are especially useful for those Candida sufferers who experience chronic constipation. If you are not suffering from constipation then it might not be for you. The downside to colonics is that they can remove some of the good bacteria from your gut as well as the Candida yeast. So if you unsure whether you need it, I would recommend that you stick to the dietary cleanse. If you choose to try colonic therapy, a typical session lasts for around 4. The patient first lies down and is given a gentle but firm massage in the lower stomach area. This is to loosen the materials that the colonic will expunge. A small, sterile and disposable plastic tube is then inserted into the rectum and warm water is passed into the colon. Clients typically report a warm feeling but often have little sensation of the colonic, although it can feel slightly uncomfortable the first time. The water is allowed to gently flow into your colon, then you push it out along with the fecal matter that it has loosened. This cycle repeats several times. Other liquids, often coffee, are then typically added to the water to further help with the loosening. You can look online to find your local colonic therapist. He or she will be able to give you guidance as to how often you should get a treatment. For the purposes of your cleanse, two or three sessions should be more than sufficient. Is A Cleansing Diet Safe? A cleansing diet is generally a very healthy way to reset your health, give your liver function a boost, and detoxify your body. However, it can sometimes be stressful on the body, and so I would not recommend it if you have any major health concerns. Consult with your health practitioner if you have any concerns. And if you experience an irregular heartbeat or any other worrying symptoms, you should stop the cleanse immediately. Cleansing diets can also temporarily lower your energy levels, so if you have a full time job its best to take some time off and relax in a comfortable environment. Set aside a time for recovering your health, and try to keep it free of commitments, social events, and meetings. Your cleanse should only last a few days so scheduling it around a weekend is often a good idea. Detox Diets - Web. MD: Cleansing the Body. Set aside a weekend, it's time for spring cleaning - - more accurately, spring cleansing - -even though it is already summer. Perfect for the procrastinators among us. Spring cleansing means detoxifying your body, says Linda Page, ND, Ph. D, a naturopathic doctor, lecturer, and author of the book Detoxification. It's a way to recharge, rejuvenate, and renew, says Page. The body is coming out of what might be called hibernation. It's a way you can jump- start your body for a more active life, a healthier life. It means drinking juice - - a whole lot of juice and little else - - which pushes everything thing else out of your system, Page tells Web. MD. You're clearing out all the tubes and pipes, as they say. But to purists like Chris Strychacz, Ph. D, a research psychologist at the Naval Health Research Center in San Diego, Calif., fasting means . He's been fasting for at least 2. The effects on the body are quit different, he says. Strychacz vividly remembers his first fast - - 1. I felt like I'd figured out why Jesus and Plato and Socrates and Gandhi did it - - the clarity of thought, the peacefulness. He's author of Alternative Medicinefor Dummies. But he's among the skeptics. In Chinese medicine, fasting is part of preventive health care. For many ancient cultures, fasting helped people. PROs and CONs of the 1. Most Popular Diets. This diet eliminates processed and junk foods, which are often linked to inflammation and chronic diseases - - from heart disease to diabetes and joint pain. The allowed foods such as grass- fed meats, wild fish, poultry, eggs, nuts, fruits and vegetables tend to be nutrient- dense and high in protein and fiber. Also, heart healthy fats (olive oil, fish oil, avocado) are recommended while dairy, grain, legumes, starches, alcohol, processed foods, sugars and sugar substitutes are no- nos. You may feel better overall and lose some inches around the waist as you cut out empty calories from processed foods. Related. Recipes for Paleo Pancakes and Paleo Blueberry Muffin.
